Something important has just come to our attention.  Listen to what Elyse Cottrell of Ottowa, Canada, has to say after signing the CHS Petition:

"Apparently the administrators don't know or don't remember Eric Mohat, Meredith Rezak, Nicholas Kelo Jr... these are just some of the names of teens in Ohio who were bullied for "being gay" and committed suicide. Austin Rodriguez of Ohio was also bullied for being gay and attempted to kill himself.

Obviously there is an issue in OHIO where LGBT teens need support, not discrimination and intolerance."

We, as human beings, cannot foretell what is to come in the near future.  However, Erick and I, as well as the people of Celina, OH, would hope not to see the death of an innocent person.

Please CHS, don't let the situation come to this.

Now retired, I was a public high school principal for 30 years in Massachusetts. We began a GSA in the 90's and it has existed ever since. Never a suicide; bullying based on sexual orientation does not exist. Your administration are bigoted and discriminatory and are fearful of a reactionary community which is probably driven by a false fundamentalist religion. The more you oppress, the more that children will be depressed and die...it's a simple fact! Keep up your fight and remind the school administration that this is America not the Soviet Union.

This is truly inspiring. As a gay educator, I fully support you! Don't give up!

I did not sign your petition. I do not think that high school students should be focusing on homo or hetero SEX. Your still CHILDREN.

Lynnette, being straight or gay or bisexual is a fundamental orientation that has to do with the gender(s) you are attracted to. A person can be completely celibate and still be attracted to the same sex, thus being gay. LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) individuals are bullied because of something they can't change about themselves. These shirts are not sexual in nature. They are showing support for people who want to fully embrace their own identity, rather than trying to hide it and dealing with self-hatred and depression, as many LGBTQ people face who are unable to be proud of who they are.

Oh my....And you, Lynnette are either living in a fantasy world or really out of touch with how teens think. I may be 55 years old but I remember what it was like to be a teen.

Besides, this ISN'T about sex, it's about respect and acceptance of ALL people, regardless of who they are or what they believe.

You are not signing it just because you don't think youth should be having sex.
When you should be signing it so youth can walk down the hallways of their own school, without fear.
People should be proud of who they are, not have to hide, and be able to show that pride.

Two comments: First, the email for the superintendent is either incorrect or they have disabled it.

Second, I am sure this site is full of great comments. Unfortunately, gray print on a black background is VERY difficult to read and is poor web design. Please consider either make all the print white, or reversing your set up so that you have black print on a white or gray background.

I agree with Teri that the site is extremely difficult to read. I read it by highlighting the text. I’m afraid that most people who arrive at this important site probably leave it without bothering to read anything. Please have the text and background colors contrast more. Thank you.

I posted this as a comment on the petition site, but wanted to provide it here too:
http://www.aclu.org/lgbt-rights/lgbt-youth-schools

The American Civil Liberties Union has a large section that provides information and aid to students who are fighting LGBT discrimination. There is a lot of legal info (precidence cases, national law, etc) that can help you make a good case against administrators (or at least help scare the snot out of them). I would also suggest looking for your regional ACLU office and giving them a call to see if they can help you more directly.
Keep standing up for what you believe in; you can make a difference in your school for generations of LGBT students behind you!
Best wishes from a west coast Ally!

I would second the comment about involving the ACLU; this administration's actions send shudders up my spine.
